A Little Night Music at Park Square Theatre

A Little Night Music

Park Square Theatre
20 W 7th Pl St. Paul

Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music is a witty, urbane romance set to waltz time. The action takes place over a weekend at a country house in early 20th-century Sweden. Middle-aged lawyer Fredrik Egerman has been married to his teenage trophy wife for nearly a year, but she's tenaciously holding onto her virginity. His eyes begin to wander to the other guests and he finds himself searching for true meaning and fulfillment in a relationship. Sophisticated, literate and stylish, A Little Night Music explores the complexities of love and heartache with warmth and humor, and is most famous for the ballad "Send in the Clowns." Randy Reyes leads a talented cast of your favorite Mu performers, including Sheena Janson (Little Shop of Horrors), in this Sondheim classic directed by Rick Shiomi (Into the Woods).

How Was The Show - Recommended

"...In Stephen Sondheim‘s marvelous A Little Night Music (Mu Performing Arts performing at Park Square Theatre, through Aug 10) little surprise or tension lies in the playing-out of the characters’ predictable arcs. Frederik is married, sexlessly, to Anne. Famous matinee idol Desiree Armfeldt reappears. She and Frederik make love, to the consternation of her pompous lover Carl-Magnus and his fiery wife Charlotte. Desirée’s delightfully louche mother invites everyone to spend a “Weekend In The Country” where everything gets – neatly – worked out."
