"...Those who love the Elephant & Piggie early-reader books may enjoy seeing them come to life on stage in human form. Although parents who've sat through each of the stories a thousand times may find that the show feels long even though it only runs 60 minutes.
You don't need to be familiar with the books to see where each of the paper-thin plots is going - although the simple twists may surprise and amuse the preschool set. Basically, the stories convey the value of friendship, and all the action is just a lightweight vehicle to convey that sentiment."

"...They were on the edge of their seats (well, they had to be; otherwise the seats would have folded up, enclosing them totally), they giggled (the word “underwear” brought down the house), they yakked at the cast, they sang, and they were raptly attentive. Sure, they got a bit squirrelly but kids that age always will. E&P is designed for the youngest of the young, and the young responded."

The play, like the book series, is aimed at very young children, through that does not stop Willems (who wrote the script) from including references to Hamlet and Star Wars, offering subtle double-meanings (Piggie to her friend: "You're the elephant in the room!"), and using words like "complimentary," "pachyderm," "manipulative," and "delirious.""
