  Hamlet at Guthrie Theatre

Hamlet

Guthrie Theatre
818 South 2nd Street Minneapolis

The partnership between the Guthrie and The Acting Company enters its sixth year and provides an amazing training ground for up-and-coming actors to showcase their talents. Hamlet – Shakespeare’s story of a Danish prince’s search for vengeance, justice and truth – will play in repertory with Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, a reworking of the same tragedy from the point of view of two minor characters and their static existence in a world beyond their comprehension.

  Hamlet Reviews

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Recommended

"...This is a troupe that Oscar-winning actor John Houseman founded in order to give fresh-out-of-school actors the opportunity to collaborate on classics and take them on the road. In this case, a dozen actors have been doing these two plays since fall, and their confidence in the material and their interpretation of it came through clearly at the opening performance of "Hamlet." Director Ian Belknap and his cast have done an exceptional job of making the text accessible, each stage direction, gesture, expression and inflection convincing me that the actor knew exactly what he or she was trying to communicate. (Which isn't always the case with Shakespeare.)"

Aisle Say Twin Cities - Highly Recommended

"...There is a reason Shakespeare’s plays have lasted for so long, and a reason his themes are said to be universal. All of this can so easily get lost beneath the window-dressing of an “innovative” modern interpretation. On the occasion of the Bard’s 450th birthday, the Acting Company has stripped away the frills and gotten down to what is really important: skilled actors bringing a masterfully crafted text fully, and absolutely comprehensibly, to life. "
