Park Square to Present Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol
Nov 18, 2015

Jacob Marley's Christmas CarolPark Square continues its 41st season next month with Tom Mula's irreverent take on Charles Dickens's immortal tale, Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol. The redemption of the iconic curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge is well known, but whatever happened to his equally coldhearted business partner? Stuck in perdition for his vile misdeeds in life, Jacob Marley has one shot to redeem himself for eternity, aided by his own personal demon, who may turn out to be a faithful friend or a fiendish foe. Park Square Artistic Director Richard Cook directs Dane Stauffer* in this humorous and heartwarming tale of salvation and deliverance. Citybeat called the play "delectably zany...inspired theatre...gives the audience cause to ache, and to laugh, and in the end, to exalt."

"I love the utter simplicity of Marley - one mercurial actor on a story-telling rug, connecting us to our imaginations," said Richard Cook. "The 'holidays' in every culture celebrate birth and rebirth - Marley is a sweet little fable of resurrection through giving."

"Marley was dead," Charles Dickens writes in the very first words of A Christmas Carol, but Park Square's new holiday tradition is alive and well as it comes to the Andy Boss Thrust Stage for the first time. Since its 2008 debut, Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol has become a hilarious and heartfelt holiday classic. In this wry riff on Dickens's immortal tale, Ebenezer Scrooge's old business partner Jacob Marley travels from the Jaws of Death to the Gates of Hell in hopes of saving himself. Accompanied by a pesky little demon he embarks on a surprising and touching journey for salvation. Irreverent and funny this sweet little fable of redemption is a gentle moment in the December bustle worth sharing.

Richard Cook also designs the play's sets; the production team includes Elin Anderson (Costume Designer), C. Andrew Mayer (Sound Designer), Michael P. Kittel (Lighting Designer), Laura Topham (Stage Manager), and Lyndsey Harter (Assistant Stage Manager).

Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol Performance Schedule: December 9 is Opening Night, and the run continues through December 20. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. except for Saturday and Sunday matinees, which begin at 2 p.m. All performances are in the company's Andy Boss Thrust Stage in Saint Paul's historic Hamm Building, 408 St. Peter Street.
