Star Tribune- Recommended

"...With a musical trio, narrations and ritual displays, Zimmerman summons the power of ancient theater. In acting, though, she instills a modern sensibility primarily in McBride’s Green Snake — something of a Powerpuff Girl who doesn’t trust authority. Waschke and Manabat are more reverent, DeCaro bombastic, yet still they come close to winking at irony."

"...Waschke’s dramatic performance was great but actor Jake Manabat stole the show as Xu Xian. Manabat masked many different expressions as his character went through an emotional rollercoaster. Whether it was spunk, compassion, fear, shame or in love; he embodied them all and was nothing short of astonishing."

Twin Cities Pioneer Press- Highly Recommended

"...The elements that Zimmerman corrals (also including video projections, a versatile band and, believe it or not, a rap number) wouldn't be as effective if they weren't in service of a story that connects on an emotional level -- and, as White Snake and Xu Xian weather the vicissitudes of love, "The White Snake" does connect. There's a snag at the end, with a couple of send-off lines that are effective but that don't seem to spring organically from what we've just seen. But, as the finale builds, it's not giving too much away to reveal that the message of the show matches the message of its imaginative stagecraft, which is to say that whether we're audiences and artists collaborating as we dream up a show or human beings looking for love, we are all in this together."

How Was The Show- Highly Recommended

"...Well. Do you really want me to recap the plot? I doubt it. Suffice it to say that the story works like gangbusters, and the acting is first rate. The White Snake is a direct transfer from Chicago's Goodman; the first, I hope, of many. This shows amazes. You'll kick yourself if you miss it. So don't."
