Kenneth Lonergan's This Is Our Youth takes a lacerating look at 48 hours in the lives of three wealthy, articulate, pot-smoking teens in 1982 Manhattan. The product of affluent New York families, the trio is comprised of wannabe thief Warren, wannabe drug dealer Dennis and fashion student Jessica, all living together in doped-up squalor. Adolescence, maturity, responsibility and Reagan Era youth culture collide in this enduring, revealing play by the Oscar-nominated writer of acclaimed indie drama You Can Count on Me. Now presented by Blue Water Theater Company at Minneapolis' The Southern Theater, This Is Our Youth is a living snapshot of the moment between adolescence and adulthood, when young people first go out into the world armed only with the ideas and techniques they developed as teenagers -- ideas and techniques far more sophisticated than their parents ever realize, and far less effectual than they themselves can possibly imagine.

"...Just like ARTshare, Blue Water Theatre is experiencing some growing pains right now. Some days are better than others. Perhaps the next production will build on what was learned in this one. I feel kind of bad dinging them right out of the gate. ARTshare offerings on the level of Rehearsing Failure or These Are The Men raise the bar for everyone else participating in the experiment, and show us what a cross-section of theater all under one roof can look like.
