This theatrical big-band dance party is also a story of social tension and change. During World War II, Los Angeles was the site of racial rioting between Chicano youths and Anglo military personnel. Zoot Suit Riots tells that story with highly charged swing music, energetic dancing and wildly colorful style. With live music and three styles of dance -- swing, tap and jazz -- Zoot Suit Riots features popular songs from '90s swing revivalist bands like Cherry Poppin' Daddies ("Zoot Suit Riot") and Royal Crown Revue ("Hey! Pachuco!"), as inspired by the era's combination of outrageously cool style and demands for social change. Collide Theatrical Dance Company brings the show to Minneapolis' The Lab Theater.
