The high-stakes world of middle school spelling competitions takes center stage -- along with a plethora of pubescent angst and awkwardness -- in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, the hit musical comedy about young would-be wordsmiths and their neurotic parents. While sharing funny and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of increasingly challenging words and learn that winning doesn't have to be the only definition of success. Putnam was nominated for Best Musical and five other Tonys in its original run, winning for Best Book. Now Woodbury Community Theatre brings this fun musical smash to the Black Box Theater stage at Merrill Community Arts Center.
