A Steady Rain at Guthrie Theatre

A Steady Rain

Guthrie Theatre
818 South 2nd Street Minneapolis

Joey and Denny have been best friends since kindergarten, and after working together for several years as policemen in Chicago, they are practically family: Joey helps out with Denny's wife and kids; Denny keeps Joey away from the bottle. But when a domestic disturbance call takes a turn for the worse, their friendship is put on the line. The result is a harrowing journey into a moral gray area where trust and loyalty struggle for survival against a sobering backdrop. Don’t miss this dark duologue from playwright Keith Huff, a writer and producer of Syfy’s “Helix,” AMC’s “Mad Men” and the NetFlix series “House of Cards.” A Steady Rain is directed by Steppenwolf Theatre Company Co-Founder Jeff Perry, well-known for his role as Cyrus Beene on the hit TV series “Scandal.”

  A Steady Rain Reviews

Star Tribune - Recommended

"...This minimalist design gives actors Kelly and Viscuso the necessary space to show us their skill. The two men conjure not only their characters, but a world for us. They perform with winning empathy and clear skill."

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Highly Recommended

"...The gruff and gritty script employs a fine balance of realistic straight talk and colorful descriptions, and Kelly and Viscuso create such fully fleshed out characters that they invite some empathy even when they're clearly going down the wrong path at just about every significant crossroads they encounter. Key to their portrayals is that both Joey and Denny are motivated by affection for one another and the people closest to them, or at least so they think. But they seldom stop to assess whether their choices are doing more harm than good."

How Was The Show - Somewhat Recommended

"...IIn the case of A Steady Rain (in the Guthrie’s Dowling Studio through Nov 2), I must declare a prejudice: I dislike past tense material. Plays that depend on long set speeches about occurrences in the past violate, imho, ye olde creative writing saw, of “Show, Don’t Tell.”"
