Star Tribune - Somewhat Recommended
"...Steven Meerdink’s production, though, is disjointed and afraid of Jackson’s character. Matthews’ performance doesn’t tempt us into the unholy bargain that voters make with charismatic candidates every four years. We are let off the hook, able to hold Jackson at arm’s length because of the stench of his character. He’s repulsive, whereas there is always something oddly appealing and slightly scary in a populist."

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Not Recommended
...Hving seen fine MMT productions at other locations and "Carrie" and "Bloody Bloody" at New Century Theatre, I'm starting to wonder if the problem is the venue. It's a wide, shallow theater that sticks the actors right in the audience's faces (do they really need those microphones?), and the result is that it often feels like performers act as if they're in a larger venue when, in fact, they are invading your personal space as they speak too loudly, gesticulate too wildly and wear too much makeup."

How Was The Show - Somewhat Recommended
"...The show shoehorns the totality of Jackson’s living-large life into a super-campy 90 minute musical, complete with driving rock songs (!) and a cast of dozens. Bloody Bloody is relentlessly anachronistic (“No Way!” / “Yes, way!”), foul-mouthed (the fuck-word flies frequently from the orfici of the performers), highly dependent on stylized homosexual banter (President Van Buren minces and preens incessantly), ugly racism (e.g., the cringe-inducing song “Ten Little Indians”). The show details Jackson’s myriad hatreds of Spaniards, Brits, natives, his blunt ambition, his casual disregard of the rule of law and his bizarre (even by early 19th century standards) lack of common decency."
