Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat at Children's Theatre Company

Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat

Children's Theatre Company
2400 3rd Ave S Minneapolis

From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that the Cat in the Hat is the most mischievous cat they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and craziest of ideas, he is certainly fun to play with-and he can turn a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure. But, when the Cat releases Thing One and Thing Two from his box of tricks, havoc ensues, leaving the children to wonder whatever to do! The previous run at CTC sold out with an extended run, so we are bringing it back just for you.

Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat Reviews

Star Tribune - Recommended

"...Katie Mitchell's adaptation of "The Cat in the Hat" has been revived by Jason Ballweber as the Children's Theatre's summer production. As played with coolness and irrepressibility by Dean Holt, this "Cat" is a fun frolic through whimsy."

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Recommended

"...Does it work? From an adult perspective, the show is slow to start, feels overstuffed, loses momentum at various points and never really captures the raucous, giddy disorder so whimsically captured in the book. But that question is rightly directed toward the play's target audience of patrons whose feet do not reach the floor while sitting in their chairs and whose heads do not extend over the seat backs. While there were a handful of skeptics in the opening-night crowd ("That's just a man!" one critic-in-training squeaked furiously when Holt came on stage as the eponymous Cat), the squirmy set was generally attentive."

How Was The Show - Recommended

"...This is the kind of production the Children’s Theatre does well, making good use of the talents of CTC veterans Dean Holt as the Cat in the Hat and Gerald Drake as Fish, and adding the talents of actors experienced in physical comedy, most notably Langer and Lopes. Jason Ballweber, who also has a track record in physical theater, directs the show."
