"...So why shouldn't "Ghost" make for an equally big hit if the material is reshaped into a Broadway musical? Well, there are a few reasons, not least because it's tough to make the intimacy so central to the film work in the kind of larger-than-life, knock-your-eye-out genre that modern Broadway has become. "Ghost" closed after four months on the Great White Way (where even modest successes often last a year or two). And it says something that its first American tour isn't a full-scale union-staffed production, but features a set of Minnesota- and Wisconsin-bred non-Equity leads fairly fresh out of college. It's clear that the big cigars didn't think this material worth a big investment."
