Kara/Kara-Empty/Shell
Southern Theater
1420 Washington Ave S Minneapolis
The Japanese experimental theater form known as butoh frequently takes the form of an absurdist dreamscape as performers clad in white body makeup employ slow, hyper-controlled motions to create imagery ranging from the playful to the grotesque. See the first butoh collective ever to form in the Twin Cities, Nenkin Butoh Dan, as they present Kara/Kara-Empty/Shell, at which you and your fellow viewers will help create the space in which they concoct their strange and beautiful scenes, even defining their point of view and the sounds of their environment. Using the entirety of Southern Theater as a backdrop, Kara/Kara-Empty/Shell is a fascinating collaborative exercise between performer and audience.
