Leap of Faith at New Century Theatre

Leap of Faith

New Century Theatre
615 Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis

The "Reverend" Jonas Nightingale, an electrifying performer and con artist, is traveling with his ministry when his bus breaks down in a small Kansas town. The part-time reverend, and full-time crook, pitches a tent and invites the locals to a revival. That's when the sheriff, a woman named Marla McGowan, tries to stop Jonas from separating the townspeople from their hard-earned money. Jonas' real challenge arises when he finds unexpected love, forcing this ultimate cynic to take a real leap of faith.

  Leap of Faith Reviews

Star Tribune - Somewhat Recommended

"...Despite his cheerful opening number “Rise Up,” Jonas is more intent on lifting the townspeople’s wallets than their spirits. He tries to win over Marla (Emily Jansen), who turns out to be the sheriff, and a lonely widow to boot — her husband died in a car crash that left her teenage son, Jake (Andrew Hey), wheelchair-bound. Jake wants to walk again, and becomes a true believer in Jonas’ message, giving Jonas second thoughts about his criminal career."

How Was The Show - Recommended

"...So. If you demand that the plays you attend make sense, build appropriately, and are performed by experienced and seasoned performers, well, Leap Of Faith may not be for you. But for pure verve and fire, this may well be your cup o’ tea. Definitely see-worthy."

One Girl Two Cities - Highly Recommended

"...New Century Theatre almost felt too small for such a big show, but MMT has played this one just right. From uplifting music to a dynamic cast, a well-told story and excellent use of space, Leap of Faith is a feel-good musical that's fun for the whole family."
