Macbeth
Ames Center
12600 Nicollet Ave. Burnsville
Nastier than Scorsese at his bleakest, more violent than Tarantino at his bloodiest, Macbeth still shocks like no other tale on the page, stage or screen. Maybe it's because the murderous Macbeth isn't a robot from outer space, or even a charming psychopath -- he is something much more dangerous: an ordinary person with an extraordinary desire for power. Now The Chameleon Theatre Circle stages this chilling portrait of temptation, ambition and betrayal to close out its 18th season. Driven by a supernatural prophesy, his own ambition and an adamant partner, the Scottish general slashes his way to the throne. But just as he grasps the crown, it starts to slip through his bloody fingers. David Coral directs at the Ames Center's Black Box Theatre.
