My Antonia at Lowry Lab Theatre

My Antonia

Lowry Lab Theatre
350 Saint Peter Street St. Paul

A story of the land and the people who came to settle the Great Plains, My Antonia is also the tale of a lifelong friendship that grows out of that tough soil. Based on the enduring novel by Willa Cather, this pioneer drama pulls from the author's own adolescence to depict life in turn-of-the-century Nebraska. An award-winning adaptation, the play unfolds through memories of narrator Jim Burden, who returns to the plains after 20 years to see Antonia, the immigrant girl who shaped his understanding of life.

  My Antonia Reviews

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Recommended

"...The atmospherics of the piece are both underscored and highlighted by Roberta Carlson's homey compositions, played live by her, Leiner and Rees Burak. Their contributions lend depth and texture to a poignant and powerful elegy to a time, a landscape and a feeling that lie just beyond our memory's horizon."
