Flanagan's Wake returns to St. Paul
Feb 13, 2012

Flanagan's WakeJust in time for St. Patrick's Day, Actors Theater of Minnesota will be re-mounting last year's hit, interactive Irish comedy Flanagan's Wake, at the Cabaret at Camp Bar, March 2nd - 24th. From the folks who proved that drinking and laughter are the perfect mix comes an evening of fun around a coffin with some pints of Guinness.

Flanagan's Wake is a hilarious, interactive Irish wake in which the villagers of Graplin, County Sligo, Ireland, welcome their Irish-American cousins (the audience) to mourn the passing of their dear friend, Flanagan. The audience is invited to join the villagers in grieving as only the Irish can by tipping back a few pints in memory of dear, old Flanagan. The cast interweaves scripted stories with improvised, comical tales and quick-witted songs based on suggestions from the audience.

Mayor Martin O'Doul will preside over the wake with an iron hand (and a parched throat). After paying respects to the glowering Mother Flanagan and the poor, grieving fiancee, Fiona Finn, the audience will listen to the eulogy written by County Sligo's best-known writer, Mickey Finn, and raise a glass with Brian Ballybunion, himself a weaver of tales. Some of the audience may cross themselves with the blessings from St. Gregory's parish priest, Father Damon Fitzgerald, while others may cross their fingers that local pagan Kathleen Mooney doesn't cast a spell on them. The audience is invited to share their own experiences and misadventures with dear, old Flanagan, or simply enjoy the stories and songs of the locals.

Flanagan's Wake is directed by John Haynes. The show was first produced at the Improv Institute in Chicago in 1994.

Flanagan's Wake plays March 2 - 24, 2012, at Camp Bar and Cabaret, 490 North Robert Street, Saint Paul, MN, 55101. Performances are at 7:00 p.m. on Thursdays - Saturdays, and 5:00 p.m. on Sundays, with an additional performance on Wednesday, March 14 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $34, or $29 for groups of 10 or more, and are available at BrownPaperTickets.com or by calling 800-838-3006.
