Theatre Pro Rata Presents The Woodsman

How do you forgive yourself for an unforgivable sin? How do you atone and move on? Walter has just spent twelve years in prison for molesting a child. Upon his release, he is intent to put his life back together and never harm another innocent. He encounters suspicion and mistrust from those who know him while holding suspicions of his own, noticing a man hanging around near the school across the street from his apartment.

Director Erik Hoover said of the play, "The Woodsman raises profound questions about sexual violence and provides no easy answers; it charts the difficult and often dangerous course of healing and redemption for both victim and transgressor alike."

Originally produced by The Actors' Studio in 2000, playwright Steven Fechter went on to adapt the play into a movie starring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick in 2007.

Former member of the Margolis-Brown Adaptor Company and performer with many companies in the Twin Cities including Theatre Pro Rata, Erik Hoover makes his directorial debut with The Woodsman. Local favorite Adam Whisner leads the cast as Walter. The play also features performances by Katherine Kupiecki, William Goblirsch, Ben Tallen, James Rodriguez, and Lillie Horton.

The creative team for The Woodsman will work with Alison Feigh, Program Coordinator for the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, to learn about sex offender typology. She will illuminate how "education around the dynamics of sexual violence, including ownership of the sex offenders our society continues to create, can...help create better artists and better problem solvers" and about the need to "talk about how sex offenders are created and how we can encourage change within this vilified population." Ms. Feigh will also take part in a post-show discussion on Sunday, March 8 for audience members focused on respectful exploration of the issue of sex offenders and how to aid in prevention.

Theatre Pro Rata will also donate 10% of the ticket sales from the March 8 performance to the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center.
