Free Shakespeare Performances in Bloomington
Jun 9, 2012

Bloomington Arts CenterBloomington families will have the chance to experience free outdoor theater later this month as Bloomington Theatre and Art Center's Education Program presents the Camp Shakespeare Performance Weekend. This free event will include performances by the young participants of BTAC's children's theater workshop, Camp Shakespeare, followed by a performance of The Comedy of Errors by The Strange Capers, a professional Shakespeare troupe. The Camp Shakespeare Performance Weekend takes place Saturday June 30 and Sunday July 1 at 2:00 p.m. each day.

During the Camp Shakespeare performance weekend, students will perform scenes from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream in the outdoor amphitheatre on east side of the campus of Bloomington Civic Plaza at 1800 W. Old Shakopee Road. They will also be joined by The Strange Capers, a professional outdoor Shakespeare company from the Twin Cities. The Strange Capers will follow the youth with a 90-minute performance of their version of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, directed by well-known Twin Cities actor/director Randy Reyes. This will mark the opening weekend of The Strange Capers' summer 2012 production, which will also include two subsequent weekends in Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis.

Performances take place June 30 and July 1 at 2pm each day and are free and open to the public. Attendees are invited to bring blankets, a picnic, sunscreen, and the whole family. Camp Shakespeare is partially funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Bloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC), a 501(c)(3) is a nonprofit organization formed in 2009 from the merger of the Bloomington Civic Theatre and Bloomington Art Center.
