Taste-It Hennepin: Food Trucks at the Orpheum During Blue Man Group
Jun 11, 2012

Blue Man GroupAs part of Plan-It Hennepin, Hennepin Theatre Trust has invited a selection of food trucks to occupy the parking lot adjacent to the Orpheum Theatre throughout the run of Blue Man Group, showing June 15-24, 2012. With Taste-It Hennepin, a new summer event to further revitalize Hennepin Avenue, show patrons and other downtown diners can sample anything from Vietnamese-style banh-mi sandwiches from YumMi to Ethiopian cuisine from She Royal and cupcakes from the award-winning Minneapolis bakers at Cupcake. Other local vendors include A Cupcake Social, Sandy's Italian Ice, House of Hunger, Taqueria La Hacienda, Barrio, Simply Steve's, Stanley's, Vellee Truck and Tollefson Family Grill.

About 1 1/2 hours before each show until approximately one hour after each show, between two and four food and dessert trucks will be parked west of the National Camera Exchange building north of Hennepin Avenue on 10th Street. Food will not be available on Monday, June 18 (no performance) or after 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 24. The mix will vary from show to show.

Taste-It Hennepin, like the recent Talk-It Hennepin series, is part of the broader Plan-It Hennepin, a year-long initiative to re-imagine Hennepin Avenue as a revitalized cultural corridor from the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to the Mississippi River. The project is led by partners Hennepin Theatre Trust, Walker Art Center, Artspace and the City of Minneapolis and funded by a National Endowment for the Arts "Our Town" grant. Increasing the number and diversity of food options has often been mentioned during the planning process as an idea to continue to enliven Hennepin Avenue.

Blue Man Group, the critically acclaimed trio of blue and bald performers whose wildly popular multi-media theatrical shows and concerts combine comedy, music and technology, brings its first ever theatrical tour to Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum Theatre June 15-24, 2012. Promising classic moments as well as new content, the production also features a new physical design centered around a proscenium-sized LED curtain and a high resolution screen creating an entirely new visual experience. Blue Man Group is presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust's as part of its 2011/12 Broadway Across America-Minneapolis Season.
