Illusion Theater's Love & Marriage opens Oct. 11
Sep 11, 2012

Illusion TheaterMarriage-and what it signifies-is on the mind of almost every Minnesotan this fall, and Illusion Theater weighs in with LOVE & MARRIAGE, a fresh multimedia musical revue. Using cherished classics, contemporary tunes and a few surprises, Composer/Arranger Roberta Carlson and Illusion Theater Co-Producing Director Michael Robins celebrate love, life partners and the true meaning of "for better or for worse." Featuring videotaped interviews with some of the Twin Cities' most committed couples, Love & Marriage opens October 11 and will run through October 28 at the downtown Minneapolis theater, located on the eighth floor of The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, 528 Hennepin Ave.

In this rumination on marriage equality, Cat Brindisi, Adara Bryan, Reid Harmsen, Melissa Hart, Rachel Hurst, Charles Johnson, Randy Schmeling and Dennis Spears bring new meaning to an eclectic mix of musical gems ranging from "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away," to Rodgers & Hammerstein's "It Might As Well Be Spring" and Sondheim's "Loving You." The fast-paced showcase also features Jason Mraz's "I Won't Give Up," Bruno Mars' "Marry You," and 20 additional hits and rarities, including two original songs by Carlson.

Interspersed between musical numbers are clips from a film, created by videographer Jonathan Carlson, featuring interviews about long-time and new-found love with notable life partners-gay, lesbian and straight-including Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak & Megan O'Hara, Scott Mayer & John Zeches, Katie Guentzel & John Catron, Bradley Greenwald & John Novak, Betsy Husting & Joyce Mellstrom, and Lisa Goodman & Ben Horn, to name a few.

The Love & Marriage creative team includes Mary Beth Ganger (costume design), Dean Holzman (set design), and Michael Wangen (lighting design).

Tickets for Love & Marriage are $15-28. Discounts are available for matinees, children and groups of 10 or more people. Tickets are available at the Illusion Theater Box Office at 612-339-4944 or online at www.illusiontheater.org.
