Star Tribune - Somewhat Recommended

"...Quite a bit of new music, though, written by composer Robbie Roth, slides into that early 1980s pop pattern — a straight beat with choruses out of the Joe Cocker/Jennifer Warnes songbook. It is tuneful, serviceable and it fits the era, but it all sounds the same"

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Somewhat Recommended

"...Show creators Tom Hedley, Robert Cary and Robbie Roth use much of the film's MTV-era hits ("Flashdance ... What a Feeling," "Maniac," "Gloria") and add a handful of newly written, instantly forgettable songs that may help tell the story, but won't have anyone humming them on the way out. If anything, the show would benefit greatly if the creative team snipped and trimmed some of the new songs and tightened up the meandering narrative."

How Was The Show - Recommended

"...The Hennepin Theatre Trust continues to do its part in bringing Broadway-bound new shows to Minneapolis audiences. Minnesota did its part by filling the seats with fans who may have come of age with its movie namesake. Flashdance the Musical certainly delivers on the flash and the dance – and the working-class-girl-making-it-on-her-own theme is all a musical really needs for a story."
