Steel Magnolias at Old Log Theater

Steel Magnolias

Old Log Theater
5185 Meadville Street Greenwood

Alternately hilarious and touching, Steel Magnolias is the story of the outspoken clientele of Truvy's Beauty Salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana. Any lady who is "anybody" in the town comes to get their hair done by the wise-cracking Truvy and her eager new assistant, Annelle. The group of women is very eclectic, made up of the town curmudgeon, an eccentric millionaire, the queen bee of the social set and her beautiful, diabetic daughter. When a sudden tragedy befalls the close-knit group of women, their inner strength and love for each other pulls them through. Filled with hilarious banter and touching moments, Steel Magnolias transports us into a charming world whose characters are great company in good times and bad.

  Steel Magnolias Reviews

Star Tribune - Somewhat Recommended

"...Harling writes funny lines and he writes true emotions that are worth seeing and feeling. “Steel Magnolias” is best when it zings with that honest and urgent flow of life. The play’s enemy is a potential lacquer of sentiment. Knutson keeps it honest, evidenced by sniffles throughout the audience, but the show sags at times under its own inertia."

Twin Cities Daily Planet - Highly Recommended

"...The story is brought to life by six dynamic performances from the all-female cast – men appear only in phone calls and offstage events, usually causing problems. The beauty shop is managed by Greta Grosch (Truvy), better-known from the Church Basement Ladies musicals. It's no surprise that the other characters speak so freely: Grosch's portrayal embodies the judgment-free hairdresser you spill your whole life story and secrets to just moments after meeting. Her new assistant, played by Lisa Bark (Annelle), starts as something of a mystery fiture; Bark's rendering of the character highlights her quirkiness and provides a pleasantly understated and hilarious counterpoint to the mainstage action."
