The Potting Shed
Open Window Theatre
5300 S. Robert Trail Inver Grove Heights
What could have possibly happened in the potting shed when James was just 14 years old that has his mother refusing, all these years later, to allow him at the bedside of his dying father? The Potting Shed, a thrilling psychological drama written for the stage by Graham Greene, seeks the answer to this compelling question as it follows James on his quest for the lost details of this pivotal moment. But with his family members unwilling to discuss it, James must seek the help of a psychoanalyst in order to unearth the roots of his isolation and alienation. This Open Window Theatre production of The Potting Shed brings this gripping mystery from the writer of revered classics like The Power and the Glory and The End of the Affair back to the stage. Come see for yourself why William Golding (Lord of the Flies) once described Greene as "the ultimate chronicler of twentieth-century man's consciousness and anxiety."

The Potting Shed Reviews
Twin Cities Daily Planet - Somewhat Recommended
"...Because the most important thing in the play happened 30 years ago, large swaths of The Potting Shed take place through exposition rather than current action. O'Toole's production and his cast do their best to make all of this active, but it's a tough haul. Neither atheists or people of faith (or God, for that matter) come off looking terribly good (or smart) here. Denial is the order of the day. Once the truth is out, though, James (and Stanbary's performance) is transformed, so the truth does at least set one person free. It just doesn't do a whole lot of other people much good."
