Guys and Dolls
Bloomington Center for the Arts
1800 W. Old Shakopee Rd. Bloomington
This classic American musical transports you back in time to New York City of the early 1950s ... with a side trip to Havana. Follow the romantic and criminal exploits of shady New York gamblers Sky Masterson, Nathan Detroit and the women who love them: Adelaide, who's been waiting for a marriage proposal for over a decade, and Sarah, an uptight missionary out to save Sky's soul. Frank Loesser's musical masterpiece brings to life the stories and characters of Damon Runyon with terrific numbers like "If I Were a Bell," "Adelaide's Lament," "Luck Be a Lady" and "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat." With Bloomington Civic Theatre mounting this production, it's a sure bet you'll be entertained.

Guys and Dolls Reviews
Star Tribune - Highly Recommended
"...Music director Anita Ruth's orchestra gives a sparkling rendition of the standards-laden score, and she does an especially good job with the male ensemble. The tight harmonies in "The Oldest Established Permanent Floating Crap Game in New York" are thrilling."

Twin Cities Pioneer Press - Recommended
"...Director/choreographer Michael Matthew Ferrell generally wrangles the cast of two dozen well. Ferrell -- who cut his teeth on the dance end of musical theater -- has a tendency to overchoreograph, filling every single musical moment with movement (the jazz squares by the missionaries singing "Follow the Fold," for instance, are probably unnecessary). And while the proceedings in the first act sometime drag, he's able to generate a strong sense of momentum in the second act to carry the show to its inevitable happy ending, allowing audience members to leave the theater with a spring in their step and a song in their heart."
