Disney's The Little Mermaid Comes to Orpheum Theatre Today

Take a trip under the sea with Theatre Under The Stars' production of Disney's The Little Mermaid. This fun-filled, timeless tale makes its Minneapolis debut at Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum Theatre (910 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis) today, October 8, through October 18, 2015, as part of the 2015-2016 Bank of America Broadway on Hennepin Season.

In a magical kingdom fathoms below, we meet Ariel, the little mermaid who is tired of flipping her fins and longs to be part of the fascinating world on dry land. Joining her are Sebastien, Ariel's crabby sidekick; Ursula, the evil sea witch; King of the Sea and the handsome Prince Eric.

Based on Disney's animated film and hit Broadway musical, The Little Mermaid features all the favorite songs including "Under The Sea" and "Part of Your World," as well as new songs written by Oscar-winning Disney composer Alan Menken, the mastermind behind Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocohontas. Lyrics are by Howard Ashman and Glen Slater with a book by Doug Wright.

Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS), Houston's acclaimed non-profit musical theatre company, will kick off Disney's The Little Mermaid in Houston this September followed with productions in four other cities including Minneapolis. After closing on Broadway in 2009, Disney's The Little Mermaid underwent two years of intensive work to fine-tune the production. In 2014, TUTS produced the revised version which includes mesmerizing scenery, dazzling new costumes and high-flying action.

Performance dates are October 8-18, 2015, at Hennepin Theatre Trust's Orpheum Theatre (910 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis). Performance times are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m.
