"...It's a three-hour evening of theater, but this "Crucible" moves like lightning, particularly in the riveting first two acts. Beginning with a bunch of young women discovered dancing in the woods, the first half of the play shows how quickly hysteria can spread. One minute, the girls are being told that the devil drove them to dance, the next we learn that the girls have taken this idea and run with it. Soon, they and other Salem residents have accused 14 women of deviltry, then 39, then in the hundreds and then, as voiced by the worried investigator Reverend Hale, "Nothing's left to stop the whole green world from burning.""
