Chameleon Theatre Circle presents True Love
Mar 22, 2012

Burnsville Performing Arts CenterThe Burnsville Performing Arts Center hosts The Chameleon Theatre Circle's production of Charles L. Mee's True Love which retells the ancient story of Phaedra and Hippolytus in a gritty, innovative context. Radically reconstructed and placed in a mythic Minnesota trailer park, this classic tale thrives in a quirky post-modern setting. When her husband Richard's car breaks down, Polly is left with her stepson to fend for herself in a mechanic shop/beauty salon filled with unique and memorable characters just as Phaedra was left to wait for Theseus to return in the ancient tale. An eclectic mix of live musicians stands in for a Greek Chorus, ancient gods may interfere in mortals' lives from time to time and, like Phaedra before her, Polly just can't seem to resist sleeping with her stepson. Funny, provocative, and unflinching, this adaptation is suggested for Mature Audiences.

This is a regional premiere for the play and directed by Barbe Marshall. It showcases the talents of actors and musicians from around the Twin Cities including Karen Bix as Polly, Scott Gilbert as Richard, Erin Caswell, Duane Koivisto, Daniel Li, Amy Luedtke, Amelia Mohn, Corinna Knepper Troth, and Erica S. Young.

The Burnsville Performing Arts Center is located at 12600 Nicollet Avenue, Burnsville. Performances are scheduled for April 13, 14, 20, 21, 23, 27 & 28 at 7:30 pm and April 29 at 2pm.
