My Fair Lady opens at Bloomington Theatre and Art Center
Apr 9, 2012

Bloomington Theatre and Art CenterBloomington Theatre and Art Center (BTAC) is excited to announce the beloved musical My Fair Lady. This Bloomington Civic Theatre (BCT) production will run April 27 through May 27, 2012. My Fair Lady will be directed and choreographed by Lewis Whitlock III, with music direction by Anita Ruth. The cast includes Rachel Weber as 'Eliza Doolittle' and Jim Pounds as 'Henry Higgins.'

Long requested by BCT audiences, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's "Pygmalion" brings beauty, style and grace to the stage and offers a pleasing vision for the eye. Enjoy familiar songs like "I Could Have Danced All Night," "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face," "The Rain in Spain," and "Get Me to the Church on Time," along with production numbers that will have you dancing in the aisles! In June 1961, the show became the longest-running production in Broadway history, outdistancing Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, which had held that record until that time.

The work of Lewis Whitlock III (director and choreographer of My Fair Lady) has been seen locally, nationally and internationally, including Chanhassen Dinner Theatres, Guthrie Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, Plymouth Playhouse and the Minnesota Orchestra's Night at the Pops concert series and Young People's concert series. In 2008 and 2009, Mr. Whitlock III was honored to be a Cultural Envoy for the American Embassy in Kazakhstan, conducting musical theater workshops. He completed a Fulbright Grant, teaching jazz dance in Riga, Latvia in 2003. As a member of Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul, he directed and/or choreographed many productions including its original production of Black Nativity, which he conceived, directed and choreographed for fourteen years. Nominated by Governor Rudy Perpich, he has served on the advisory council of the School for the Arts and Resource Center, as well as serving on the Neighborhood Arts New Presenter's Committee and as a Minneapolis arts commissioner. He also the artistic director for A Minnesota Without Poverty. Mr. Whitlock III holds a MFA degree in Theatre Arts from Minnesota State University-Mankato.
