Black Nativity Nov 30 - Dec 24, 2017
Penumbra Theatre Black Nativity

Langston Hughes' Black Nativity is a joyous account of the nativity told through scripture, verse, music and dance. Focusing on compassion, community and connectivity, the Harlem Renaissance poet's song-play, first performed in 1961, is a true Christmastime -- and Twin Cities -- tradition. A retelling of the Christmas story from an Afro-centric perspective, Black Nativity mixes text from the Gospel of Saint Luke with black vernacular. Kingdom Life Church Choir and a cast of children and adults brings this timeless story to life with music and dancing in this uplifting production for the whole family. Experience this moving story at St. Paul's Penumbra Theatre.

The Loft Stage A Christmas Story: The Musical

The leg lamp, the pink bunny suit, the Chinese restaurant, the frozen flag pole -- all your favorites from the film are here in this musical adaptation of the movie-turned-TV-classic A Christmas Story, which even happens to include a tune called "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out." With a score from the Oscar-winning composing team of Pasek and Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, La La Land), this holiday spectacular follows the Yuletide adventures of Ralphie, a cherubic '40s-era kid who's got one simple Christmas wish: He wants a Red Ryder BB gun. Or, more specifically, a "Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time." But the grown-ups in his life are rightfully wary of the request. This song-filled romp offers up a heaping helping of fun family holiday entertainment at the Woodbury Community Theater's Loft Stage.
